Task 3 – 3D Gameplay Animation Research

Jumping and Balancing Animation

This animation is made by a person called Emmanuel Lauzon.

"
Final project in my 3D Animation class"

This video shows a jumping and balancing animation. The model can be seen jumping from one side to the middle, in which it starts balancing and then it jumps to the other side. To make this animation, the entire body needs to be moved. Jumping and Balancing is used in the majority of games.

This video shows a game called Crackdown. This game has alot of jumping and balancing in it, and it has jumping as one of its core mechanics. Jumping is very important as it allows players to reach different parts of the map that you would not be able to if there was no jumping.

Running Animation

This video shows the 3D Model performing a running animation. This is an animation that is very widely used. Running is used in pretty much every game where you play as a human or creature.

The video above shows gameplay of Far Cry 4. In this game, running is crucial for faster travelling, avoiding death and completing objectives faster. Running animations can be made with pretty much every software, such as Modeler and Layout.

Attacking Animation

This animation is made by a man called Adam Grimaldi. The ninja rig was animated by himself, but he got the model as a stock from a website called HighEnd3D.com. Adam also shot and acted out the reference video himself. He is skilled with using many different software's, one of them being Maya. The video shows a ninja model performing an attack animation. The ninja then executes a subsequent death animation as if it has been attacked itself and died.

This video is the perfect example of a game that uses animated ninja attacks. This game uses combat mechanics that are very similar to what the 3D animated model by Adam Grimaldi uses. Attacking animations are used in every combat game as a form to keep the player alive by killing any enemies that attempt to kill you.

Animations in general are very crucial in games as they bring more life and enjoyment to the game. Running animations in an adventure game or just tire animations in a racing game can make the game feel much better.
